SADLY, THE "MOVIE REVIEWER" SLOT IN MY PEER GROUP IS TAKEN. By Alli, that is, over at Frolic and Detour. I say sadly because the Times, and A.O. Scott in particular, are being inspirational again. Here is Scott's closing blurb from his review of Bad Boys II:

"Bad Boys II" is rated R (Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian). One or two scenes do not include graphic violence, drug references, or partial nudity, and there may be a line of dialogue that does not contain profanity.

"STREET CRED." TrailBlazers Rasheed Wallace and Damon Stoudamire have it, according to espn.com. Of course, some people say that's the problem with the Blazers. Meanwhile, the 88 employees just dumped by the Blazers are....on the street!

JOHN EDWARDS IS ELECTABLE. That's the message of this William Saletan piece, which argues that the Dem nomination will be fought out between Howard Dean and "one other, more openly centrist candidate." Saletan then gives an under-his-breath mention of Kerry as the centrist, then proceeds to serve up a love letter to Edwards as Clinton II but without the zipper problems. Edwards defines the core values in the race, as everyone does in one form or another, in terms of money and how we as Americans relate to it. Edwards represents honor, hard work, and people paying their fair share; Bush represents cronyism, old money, and "people who sit at home and get their statements every month from their investments and see how much money they've made."

I'm all for class warfare, but it's interesting that the premise of the article is that it takes a centrist (Edwards or Kerry) to defeat a centrist (Bush). Since when is Bush a centrist?

AND THEN THERE'S CHARLES TAYLOR. No, not the Chuck Taylor of canvas basketball shoe fame, the west African dictator who foments bloody civil war in neighboring states, and has been indicted for war crimes. Turns out he's just misunderstood.

MANY MOONS HAVE WAXED AND WANED SINCE I BLOGGED. Why? Well, sweet fiancee Trina and I have been looking both for a house to buy and a wedding space to rent, and I had a trial, which I lost. That's the short story, and it's enough. In the meantime, my little thoughts have been angrier and angrier. Check this out. Three disaffected teens plot a Columbine-style massacre, and arm themselves to the teeth. Two quotes:

"Each was armed with a high-power rifle or shotgun, he said, and they had handguns with more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition."

"Sarubbi described Lovett as the 'shaker and mover' of the alleged plot, and said all of the guns were owned and legally registered by Lovett's father."

If you aren't outraged....
